FEATURED BATHROOM PROJECT

Glass-Free Walk-In Shower and Primary Bath in Hampton

We gutted this primary bathroom in Hampton, GA, and rebuilt it around a Japanese-style shower with no glass, a freestanding tub, 24×24 tile on every wall and new Fabuwood cabinets. We redid the kitchen too.

THE REQUEST

A Shower You Just Walk Into

The homeowner wanted to walk straight into the shower with no glass at all. That drove the whole design: a Japanese-style shower area with a freestanding tub, laid out to give it the room it needed.

THE LAYOUT

Gutted and Opened Up

We took everything out of the bathroom, cabinets included. We removed the non-load-bearing wall that separated the vanity from the toilet room, and the homeowner, who no longer needed two large closets, gave up part of one so the bathroom could be bigger.

BEFORE

AFTER

THE SHOWER

Tile on Every Wall

Getting a true step-in shower meant getting the drain down. We used a Schluter pan and ran their waterproofing system between the floor joists, which let the drain sit low enough that there is no curb to step over.

With no glass to hold the water in, we ran 24×24 tile on all of the bathroom walls, so splashing from the shower is never a problem.

CABINETS AND DETAILS

Cabinets, a Urinal and the Kitchen

New Fabuwood cabinets went in at the vanity, along with a new linen cabinet. At the homeowner’s request, there’s a urinal beside the regular toilet. He absolutely loves the end result.

In the kitchen, we took out the cabinets, counters and backsplash, moved a knee wall to make the kitchen bigger and more open, and put in Fabuwood cabinets with a blue-toned quartz.
