THE STORY

A Childhood Home for the Next Generation

This was the homeowner’s childhood home. When her father passed away, the house went to her son, along with money to update it. Her son and daughter-in-law were moving back to Forsyth and needed a place to live. Chrissy Ham and Kerri Swearingen of Middle Georgia Realty, the Sold Sisters and two of our trusted realtor partners, referred the family to us. She tells the story in her own words in the video below.

“This is not the first house that I’ve remodeled, but I will say that this was the easiest, smoothest process because of you… When I call, you answer the phone. When I text, you reply back.”

THE STRUCTURAL WORK

Load-Bearing Walls and a Primary Suite Addition

The house had been added onto a time or two over the years. To open it up, we removed load-bearing walls to an engineer’s design and built a new primary suite addition on the back of the house. That work was permitted under the Georgia contractor license of our sister company, American Craftsman Homes. Here’s how our licensing works.

THE KITCHEN AND FLOORS

An Opened-Up Kitchen and New Hardwood

We opened up the kitchen. We had hoped to save the original hardwood floors, but under a couple of layers of linoleum in the kitchen they were too far gone, so new hardwood went in.

THE PRIMARY SUITE

A New Primary Suite on the Back

The addition holds a new primary bedroom, a new primary bathroom and a new primary closet.

THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE

An Office, Windows, Paint and a Driveway

We turned one of the bedrooms into an office, replaced the windows, repaired the drywall where walls came out, painted the whole house and replaced the driveway.

THE REVEAL

Staged and Nearly Move-In Ready

We signed the design agreement on October 10, 2024, and the construction contract on November 12. While the permit was in process, the family had time to clear out the house after her father’s passing. The permit came through around January 14, 2025, and we filmed the reveal on May 17, 2025, about four months later.

At the reveal, we surprised the family. One of our trade partners staged the house so they could see it lived in, and they loved it so much they bought most of the staged furniture. They had an almost ready-to-move-in home the day the project finished.
