FEATURED SIDING PROJECT

James Hardie Siding on Lake Oconee in Eatonton

Old cedar shake came off this Lake Oconee home in Eatonton, GA, and James Hardie shake, board and batten and smooth lap siding went on. Under the shake we found rot at almost every exposed window, and the job grew from there.

PROJECT STORY

It Started as a Siding Job

Old cedar shake, with the woodpecker problem cedar tends to get, and homeowners who wanted James Hardie. All of it in shake cost more than made sense, so we used HOVER to find the mix: shake as accents, board and batten where it suited the house, smooth lap everywhere else. The soffit and fascia weren’t part of the job.

WHAT WE FOUND

Rot Under the Shake

The shake came off and the sheathing underneath had nothing on it but felt paper, no house wrap — including under the tarp you may see in the before photos. The windows were the worst of it, and there was more behind the trim where the stone butted up, so all of the stone came off and went back as ProVia Terra Cut in Niagara with gray grout.

What happens if you find rot behind my siding? is the full story — who decides what gets fixed, what moves on the price, and what we won’t cover up.
